Suggestions on planning a trip to Italy and Greece?

My husband and I only have about 9 days for our European vacation. We don't want to stay in a hostile, but we would like to spend as little as poss. We want to spend most of the time in Italy, and a day or two in Greece. I have no idea how long it takes to get from Italy to Greece or the best way to get there. I would love to hear some advice!
